Maintain Good Eyesight in 2017
The path to better vision begins today! While “getting healthy” might have most thinking about losing weight and exercising, your eyesight is another part of your health that needs attention. Don’t wait until your vision suffers to get on the right track toward healthier eyes.
The Eyes Have It—Health
Fortunately, if you’ve resolved to live a healthier lifestyle, your vision will also benefit.
For example, eating well to lose weight can also help improve your vision. Foods like green, leafy vegetables, salmon, eggs and oranges can all help reduce your risk of developing cataracts and macular degeneration. Plus, healthy eating can help to prevent or reverse a Type 2 diabetes, which can—if not managed effectively—lead to blindness.
Smoking can also cause damage to your vision in the form of cataracts and/or optic nerve damage. Therefore, now would be a great time to practice smoking cessation as one of your resolutions for 2017.
Another resolution you should add on your list? Bringing your sunglasses with you every day. Be sure to pack your sunglasses and, depending on your job, protective eye wear every time you head outside. Even in the winter, the sun can be strong and, as a result, increase your chances of cataracts and macular degeneration. Protect your eyes as best you can from the UV rays with sunglasses that block at least 99 percent of UVA and UVB rays. (Hint: A pair can be found in our Optical Shop!)
When was the last time you had an eye exam? If it’s been over a year, it’s been too long. Call Allied Eye to make an eye appointment for the entire family so that you can keep your vision going strong in 2017!”
